Re: Invisible ls3 head demo
Don't forget a high speed/high resolution camera to be able to properly slow-mo the playback.
Icing on the cake would be, instead of a flowbench, a transparant cylinder and an actual highspeed moving piston which could vary speed with functional intake and exhaust valves, pumping those styroballs around.

An honest question, what are we supposed to learn from all that? Watching styrofoam balls fly around?bigblockmopar wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 7:33 pm Don't forget a high speed/high resolution camera to be able to properly slow-mo the playback.

Now I know what will happen when I crash my corvette into a pillow factory.

Here is a good in cylinder camera of a running 4 cycle engine.bigblockmopar wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 7:33 pm Don't forget a high speed/high resolution camera to be able to properly slow-mo the playback.

About the same-thing you would learn watching a CFD simulation except it's not a simulation.Frankshaft wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 7:47 pmAn honest question, what are we supposed to learn from all that? Re: Invisible ls3 head demo
Actually it is a simulation but you can't see the airflow or velocity profile or gradients like on cfd

Re: Invisible ls3 head demo
Sometimes things only get 'seen', noticed/learned/explained until you actually see it happening.
And it never hurst to double check a simulation for correctness.
Just like Jon Kaase putting his finger in an intake port to get a 'feel' for what was actually happening inside.

Nope, there are no pressure waves present during the clear flow bench test, just continuous flow.GARY C wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 9:51 pmAbout the same-thing you would learn watching a CFD simulation except it's not a simulation.Frankshaft wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 7:47 pmAn honest question, what are we supposed to learn from all that? I agree Warp. Think of it as a snapshot of time in the port at lower than operating pressures.

At least those Lucas Oil Stabilizer displays at the autoparts store show how to increase windage. You know those gear to gear displays.Warp Speed wrote: ↑Sun Jun 03, 2018 5:17 pmNope, there are no pressure waves present during the clear flow bench test, just continuous flow.GARY C wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 9:51 pmAbout the same-thing you would learn watching a CFD simulation except it's not a simulation.Frankshaft wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 7:47 pm

Based on the CFD image what would you guys change on this head to improve it?Headguy wrote: ↑Sun Jun 03, 2018 6:29 pmAt least those Lucas Oil Stabilizer displays at the autoparts store show how to increase windage. Re: Invisible ls3 head demo
I'd change the chamber to get rid of those sharp corners and eliminate that dead space. lol
Re: Invisible ls3 head demo
It's from the bottom of this page with a couple of others talking about a virtual flowbench.groberts101 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 03, 2018 9:15 pmI'd change the chamber to get rid of those sharp corners and eliminate that dead space. lol

Kind of tough to make recommendations to the port based on 1 view angle.GARY C wrote: ↑Sun Jun 03, 2018 8:02 pmBased on the CFD image what would you guys change on this head to improve it?Headguy wrote: ↑Sun Jun 03, 2018 6:29 pmAt least those Lucas Oil Stabilizer displays at the autoparts store show how to increase windage.
