Re: Poll - Short Turn Curve Bowl Perspective
Here is another handy light. I have been using them for a while and they take a beating and keep going. Very flexible and they stay put when you get it where you want it.

Ditto. I must be really cheap and obviously don't do nearly enough heads compared to you guys because I use cardboard or plastic sheeting, whatever's available without looking too hard, for all my templates. lol Mostly just inside calipers and snap gauges like Larry's pic's show.
For lighting I use a VERY BRIGHT headband style LED light in conjunction with cheapy throw away harbor freight LED lighted die grinders most of the time. If my eyes have decent line of sight.. I can see everything very well. Then add another 600 watts or so of LED shop lights and I start to see spots when I'm done for the day.

Re: Poll - Short Turn Curve Bowl Perspective
My question to Larry is, will you be trying to port the STR the way some of us are doing it? Let us know if you do and your results.
I did try your way this afternoon on a LS3 head , I will say it makes me think a little different.Only had one port left to do on that
set of heads.

Re: Poll - Short Turn Curve Bowl Perspective
If i would turn the Head the other way ... it would make it very difficult for me to measure my Templates against ,
.....the Templates would just fall to the Floor
this SBC 462 Head was previously Ported by someone
and its very dangerously close to waterjacket
but this is how i use some of my Templates

Re: Poll - Short Turn Curve Bowl Perspective
Thank you to those who shared the concept constructing templates. I had yet to consider it. It clearly has value. This is why I come here.

Re: Poll - Short Turn Curve Bowl Perspective
i've made tons of 0.090" or 0.125" thick aluminum Templates thru the years
its a Poor Man's way of turning yourself into a CNC replicating machine !
you can avoid breaking thru to waterjackets + replicating every Port and Chamber
Re: Poll - Short Turn Curve Bowl Perspective
I like the all carbide stuff too, wont roll anything out anymore.
Those iron GM heads look nice. Always sketchy working on those due to corrosion from the backside. Keep the pics and info coming
x2 on LEDs they are the way to go!! It lets you see what you couldnt before, no comparison plus you dont start seeing spots.

These have came in very handy over the years! They have been through a lot over the years!
Re: Poll - Short Turn Curve Bowl Perspective
Almost everything I do is carbide as well... All manifolds for sure.

Re: Poll - Short Turn Curve Bowl Perspective
These are posted over on Larry M. site. One thing missing is a piece of 1/8" solder that wraps around STR /floor
in order to trace over on to alum. I use stiff stencil cardboard then sometimes transfer to .040" alum.
Pic's look nice Chad, Larry
Re: Poll - Short Turn Curve Bowl Perspective
Larry, love to see pictures of your work. I did a bit of research on what kind of flows you get out of that old iron. Super impressive, nice work.
