That is likely as good as it gets. Nothing wrong with 475 tq at those revs unless you have an unrealistic number stuck in your head and clouding your vision. I would have liked a wife that looked like Raquel Welsh too but had to settle for a little less. :)

If you want a lot of torque, you can always drop one of these in it. I made the prototype cams for it.

Remember this one?
Yes and thats a fairly short runner intake. I would seriously try a big long tube tpi runner with a good head like he had and i bet it makes atleast that torque and possibly more and lower rpm

Back when it was pitched to Toyota? They passed because they thought it would never work. They are kicking themselves now. LOL

This one made 494 lb ft.

Several other magazine tests of tpi 383’s had torque values as high as 533 lb ft. Those may be inflated but they flat out produce torque with 18-22” long runners

Actually before that(2007). It was originally going to go in a Dodge, then the economy tanked, and it got shelved. They pitched it to Toyota, and they balked. Finally Nissan went with it, but they had to redesign the frame to handle all the torque.

Take all the results you see on youtube, and in magizine's and multiply them by .9

Idk about that lol i have vids on youtube that are real, one using your cam lol

Mags i can see some inflated numbers but from everything i have seen in the long runner tpi world, i feel its your best bet for getting near that torque number

Throttles performance (900HP on this forum) also did a 400” motor for a boat and it had a miniram intake which has 3.5” runners. It made 500 hp and 500 lb ft torque on engine dyno as well on pump gas. It was a very mild setup. I think a 383 with higher end compression for the fuel and the long runner tuning effects would get close being only down 17 cubes

But hot rod and towing don't mix. That's why a sleepy 454 will do so much more reliable miles towing than a stressed 383 pumped to make the same tq

Interesting, I did not know that it was pitched to Dodge before it was pitched to us. Learn something new every day.

I have been getting a kick out of this thread as it is right up my alley. I will be putting a 412 SBC on the dyno in a few weeks that will be going in my brothers Blazer and I would love to see even 475 Ft/lb's at a reasonable RPM (not huge numbers, but I would think they should be reasonable and doable). If it lacks like it did with the last cam then we are going to rethink the heads and intake.

Or turbo charge the 383.

If one wants low rpm torque, the very long runners of the TPI intake is going to be very beneficial. As long as one is comfortable with fuel injection, I think that’s a logical direction for a high torqu low rpm engine.

Links to the blasphemous dyno results:

534 ft lbs @ 4,700 383 w L98 Heads & TPI intake extrude honed: http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/engine ... induction/
Note: There's nothing cost-effective about this build; they put like $1,000 worth of silly putty through the intake alone.

501 ft lbs 383 @ 3,900 AFR Heads & TPI intake: http://www.powerperformancenews.com/tec ... -upgrades/

RCS Racing Engines (an Engine Masters participant) has a 383 SBC Crate Motor for sale using the FIRST Fuel Injection long-runner intake and claims it makes 520 ft lbs @ 4,000 RPM, too. So even the "inflated magazine #'s" camp has to contend with RCS Racing's currently for sale 383 making over 500 ft lbs... The long runner intakes seem to break the rules-of-thumb (that "3 PSI supercharger" that operates at the torque peak on them seems to do its job).
