The 274H06 has a mildly lumpy idle in a 383, but is really strong from just above idle to about 5k. A 2000 stalk is all you need (if even that). I’ve used that cam in a bunch of 305’s and 350’s, 1 383 and 1 400. Power brake vacuum was never an issue even on the 305’s. In a 9.0 compression 383, performer, q-jet, headers, lightly ported 993 heads with 1.94/1.50 valves, in a ‘80 GMC truck with 3.40’s and a 2000 stall B&M converter, it was an exceptional truck engine...it would melt the tires on a whim and pull a 4000 pound camper very nicely

That is some of the info I wanted. I have been tempted to use this cam in a 400 with Vortec heads for my C 20. The problem is, It's hard to mess with success. The current cam is working out really well. But we always want more. We may go with one of the smaller Com XE cams on 108 in the 383. I suspect the heads could use some help. They do appear to have some work done to them, but it's very basic.

Three Holley 500 2 bbls on a adapter top, on a custom modified Eddy 2x4 RPM air gap dual plane intake would be uniquely cool.

With any of my cam recomendations it would be a street winner on this 383. Use progressive linkage on the 3x2's.
