Roller fuel pump pushrod

Post by cgarb »

Anyone ever use a Pro Cam or comp roller fuel pump pushrod? I have a billet cam in a sbc and ran a bronze tipped pushrod and it mushroomed the bronze end last year. Seems like an small bearing on the end, Looking at that maybe or a composite pushrod to try instead. Any input will be appreciated.

I used a Howards composite for about 3000 miles, with no issues, but then I went in tank electric.

Comp used to make a roller tipped FP pushrod. Never tried one, but bronze just doesn’t seem to last long

Been running composite pushrod for a couple of years,500 hp 383 sbc
Holley 200gph mechanical pump
Street /strip car 11.0s @3400 pounds
Just pulled engine for freshen
Fuel pump pushrod looking brand new, cam is good,
When I first bought the composite I also purchased a pushrod with the little wheel deal, I have never used that one, I cannot see how that thing will survive lol
Just for the record I also use composite distributor gear with adjustable sleeve on MSD billet distributior with surface rust on the magnetic pick up the same as everyone else

I think stock ones are, but they are also heavy compared to the hollow ones.

I guess Im lost here. I use quite a few composite fuel pump rods with bronze tips both in drag cars and circle wagon cars. All are used with billet cams and I put in a lathe and use jewelers rouge to polish up and peck on wood, never lost one yet. But Im going to bet, it didnt mushroom from wear. I would say you are floating the rod and hammering the end flat. Go as light a rod as you can get. I did try a steel rod with bronze end and beat the heck out of it. Went composite with bronze tip and another fuel pump

The composite people are talking bout is the entirely plastic one(I know it's not normal plastic but some high tech junk).
