Brodix BB2 Plus Heads (468)

Post by BowtieNut »

I have a 468 bbc on the dyno now that belongs to one of my guys in the shop. Not certain on all the specifics yet but it has a set of brodix 312 cc bb2 plus heads on it. Made a few pulls and it made 682 hp at 6700 rpm and 575 lb ft of torque at 5100 rpm. I didn't care for the shape of the curve and suspected it had some valvesprings that weren't correct for the rest of the valvetrain. I pulled the heads and my suspicion was confirmed. It had beat the valvejob pretty viciously. Me not being able to leave well enough alone I know I'm going to have to put the die grinder in these things. They just leave alot to be desired in them. The last motor I went through for them and turned over every rock that was practical made 75 more hp than this combo with dart 325s and a dart intake. It was 1.5 tenths quicker and had 6 mph higher traps. This one has a brodix clover leaf intake. I can see it making good power with some work on these heads but im wondering if i will be able to get close to the 760 that we had out of the dart heads. Have any of you ever really got after a set of the BB2 Plus Heads pretty hard? This was a spare 468 that he picked up reasonably cheap. I didn't originally build it.

I have ported several. I have gotten them in the 390cfm range. Mostly bowl, short side and chamber work. We have gotten 740hp on street 496bbc setups.

Fix the valve train issue. With compression and enough cam you should see near 800. Just blend the valve job, work the exhaust a little bit.

We have 468 with those heads and a 454r dominator intake. It has about 14.1 cr. with a pretty healthy comp solid roller. We did not dyno it but it runs 5.57 at 127 in a 2400 lb car footbrakeing shifting a about 7000.

Well we pulled the heads and changed valvesprings. Had 280 lbs on seat before now at 345. Changed pushrods from .080 wall to .135 wall and touched valvejob up blended the chambers and bowls and went from 682 hp at 6700 to 727 hp at 7100 rpm. Still got plenty of work that can be done in heads and intake but I just didn't have the extra time to throw at it at the moment. Didn't think that was to bad of gains for the amount of time involved. Throat got opened up a bit and valvejob on intake went from a radius to a 90/75/60/45/40. There still another 40 hp to be had with a different cam and more head work.

I think you are answering your own questions now. The valve train issues obviously was masking the potential. those heads will respond to some good work and that intake needs a fair amount of help. I think with the heads massaged for some good CFM's the cam choice will be critical to getting a 468 up around 775HP, but the potential is there in my opinion. What carb is it using now?

Yea the questions got answer by the dyno yesterday around 6 o'clock. One of the best 468 we have had on our dyno made 775 hp and has been a 4.89 in a dragster in good air. That engine had pro top line 320 heads on it with a dart intake. Seems like the real good 468 combos will make around 610 lb ft of torque.

Well not 100 percent certain but pretty sure it's a Sig Erson 276/284 @ .050 on a 108 lsa. 731 lift. My suspicion is a 110 would make better power judging by what the dyno info is telling me.
