Big disconnect between manual machinists and high tech guys these days

Well a Renishaw probe will and does operate with accuracy. Problem is you need an accurate machine with a control and software that integrate the tool. Bot a Bridgeport in any way shape or form. The laser is only so good and to do seats in a Bridgeport the pilot needs to be dead nuts to the spindle centerline plus X and Y.

I could vision a tool holder that could float + or - .010 and a not to tighten it after moving over the pilot. This is custom tooling but could start with something like a floating reamer holder. The centering step would go away

This is an accurate and direct reading.

This is similar to what Sunnen sold for the VGS and T&S

The level I have is much more accurate than the one in the link. The next best one is .001-.002" and how would you level a pilot in a guide with that one?

The one I use is accurate to .0001"
