Absolutely. You know in mid '65 Chevy introduced the 425 hp 396 for the Corvette and a few rare Chevelles so the 327 "FI" motor disappeared from production in the corvette.
in 1968 , i custom ordered a brand new 1968 Chevelle SS 396/375HP 4-speed Car , Red Stripe UniRoyal tires , etc
raced it a lot in Street Races , and at the various Dragstrips for years,
most of the time i had 5.14:1 Rear Gears in it , but i purchased another differential positive case to run 3.07:1 gears
to go back and forth to College at McNeese in Lake Charles, LA
and i tried a lot of rear gears ratios 3.23,3.42,3.73,4.11,4.56,but i used the 5.14 the longest
ran 7" M&H Race master slicks , Cragar SS Wheels , 2 Carter electric Fuel pumps in my Trunk with Toggle switch located in the ashtray
so when i drag raced , flip the Toggle switch for the 2 Carter Fuel Pumps
90/10 Hurst Grabriel Shocks + 50/50 in rear with Air Bags , plus i welded up created my own Pinion Snubber
... later purchased a Holley 3-Barrell 950 CFM Carb from Jakes Speed Shop in New Orleans for $99.00 USD ...super cheap back then
that Carb worked great w/4-Speed on a Dual-Plane + i added a 50cc Pump later on w/custom soldered-in rear squitter tubes.
...i had a Racer friend Machinist , who had a 1968 SS 350 Camaro , who heard you could Bore out the 396/375HP 4-bolt main blocks
to STD Bore 427cid ...kept bugging me to swap engines, so we swapped , i got money + his race 350cid,
later on he broke a Connecting Rod Dragracing it , destroyed my old 396.
i got tired of the 350 in my Chevelle , ordered a complete brand new 396/375HP engine
from Dickie Harrell in Kansas ... ran that 396/375 a few more years , then traded it in on another Car
but before i traded it in, i put the SSCamaros 350cid in it + left the 5.14 rear gears in it
over the next years , i sold off most 396/375 parts
kept the Crank for a long time , and now i only have the 4-Bolt main 396/375HP Block left sitting in my Shop
it has absolutely no wear or top ring ridge in Bores , its a cherry hardly used 4-Bolt Block w/valve notches in top of Bores.
Started racing a 1970 Olds W30 w/another Friend back then , Sponsored by Ray Chevrolet/Olds Car Dealership
provided a new 1970 Chevy Car Hauler Black w/White Interior , which also had a 396cid or 402cid BBC engine
