55 MM cam bore groove

Post by T Bride »

I have just finished up align boring a 24502503 Bowtie block for a 55 mm camshaft and now need to cut the annular groove in #1 and #5 bore.
The original groove was approximately .140" deep and the oil holes are .250" in dia. It appears #1 could go that deep but is that depth necessary? Would a .100" deep groove give me enough oil volume to the mains?
More concerning is #5. The bottom side of the cam bore boss is now only .050" thick for approximately .620" deep when measured from the back side of the cam bore boss. The original groove was .600" from the rear of the bore.
Now, there are only the main oil galley hole and the lifter delivery holes at the top of the #5 cam bore. So, could I get away with grooving from the the top three oil holes and down the left side to allow the oil hole to be clocked to around the 5 o'clock position?

Any input from anybody who has experienced this would be appreciated.

Terry
