His Son Steve Sherman just announced it on Facebook.

I'm pretty sure the engines will be faster in Heaven now. Go with God my friend. :(
Brazillian, since you are SpeedTalk's point of origin for this sad news through Joe's son, could you pass on to the family a link to this thread?
I'm sure they'd like to hear how much he is missed and respected here.

Ah man, no no no..

Will be missed sorely. I loved it when he would just pop in a thread and set a problem straight with one or two sentences. Lifetime of knowledge.

I knew Joe for over 40 years , raced at the same track (OCIR) as he did for as long as he raced. His "Mean Green" Chevelle embarrassed ALL the other Chevelle racers when it went into the 9's ( back then) Some laughed at his duct taped cardboard "streamling" on the underside of the car UNTIL he ran those ETs . He wasn't "big " ( around 5'8) and didn't stand out in a crowd but when it came to making HP and going fast he was "the BIG guy"!

RIP Big Joe!

Got any proof his dyno were wrong? You seem to think that about everyone. I know I've read that exact sentence from you at least twice just in the last week or 2. But I'm betting you got nothing to stand on.
I would rather post that in a different thread, start one and I will respond. I do have respect for the guy. Bigjoe1

I interacted with him very little; but I was always impressed not only by his intuitiveness, and wealth of knowledge; but by how humble he was. He was very confident in his abilities (justifiably so), but its the mark of a great man who can take a step back and ask questions of his students.
This is something I think we could all strive to do better.

Rest In Peace Joe; much love and respect, and thanks for your lifetime of service to our sport.

My sincere condolences to his friends and family; I truly am sorry.

Big Joe's article on running the pistons backwards to reverse the pin offset in a SBF is the first I remember reading, and one of the only one's that's stuck with me since I was a teen and just trying to learn whatever I could. Very straight and to the point, which rubbed some people wrong on here, but I loved reading anything he had to say.

RIP Big Joe
