INTAKE PORT PROBING WITH FLOW BALLS
WHEN YOU PROB AN INTAKE PORT WITH FLOW BALLS I UNDER STAND THAT WHEN FLOW IS REDUCED IT IS A BUSY AREA, I UNDER STAND THAT WHEN TRERE IS AN AREA WITH NO CHANGE IT IS A DEAD AREA, WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN YOU PROB AN AREA AND YOU GAIN FLOW.
Re: INTAKE PORT PROBING WITH FLOW BALLS
The flow is reattaching after the ball. Which wasn`t before , caused by shape/too high velocity or both.
Re: INTAKE PORT PROBING WITH FLOW BALLS
When probing the air flow in a port I think it's best done with a pitot tube. Not even sure what flowz balls are?

Another use for your balls. https://www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=46308

Re: INTAKE PORT PROBING WITH FLOW BALLS
Probing with the proper Pitot tube puts you light years ahead of finding out where the air mas is moving thru a port then flow balling a port if you want my 2 cents worth!
You can cut a man's tongue from his mouth, but that does not mean he’s a liar, it just shows that you fear the truth he might speak about you!

Flowballs really help if teamed up with Pitot airspeeds.

Re: INTAKE PORT PROBING WITH FLOW BALLS
If yòu in a real serious development session on a head and you have one you can sacrifice for the cause then cutting it up and drilling it with long bits to press or glue in 3/32" tubes around the valve bowl and taking pressure readings off of each tube at .050" valve lift intervals will provide a very clear picture of where the air mass is going a this in turn will provide you with insite as to how well your port shape is making use of your valve bowl Throat and valve size.
You want to use thick wall tubing like Aluminum so you can round over the tubing nose that sticks out into the valve bowl wall.
This fully beats out flow Ball useage and if you tie it in with Pitot tube readings in the runner is very informative to say the least!

Re: INTAKE PORT PROBING WITH FLOW BALLS
Blowing thru the intake manifold side of the port, having the cylinder bore adapter attached to head, is a very good alternative to do this.
Helps whatever the region of valve you want to check, as well as it´s a prototype head or not.

I don't know what eather means either!???
There is no S on the end of RPM.
Re: INTAKE PORT PROBING WITH FLOW BALLS
It means they both are #1 to me. The flow balls are 1a and the pitot 1b if I had to rank them.

Re: INTAKE PORT PROBING WITH FLOW BALLS
Yes I agree. How do you utilise them, what are you looking for and how do you interpret it? I read somewhere a long time ago that they can be used to re-attach the flow?

Re: INTAKE PORT PROBING WITH FLOW BALLS
I find an S-type velocity probe works best for me.
With a velocity probe, you can find spots that may be flowing backwards, or eddies.
