I believe people are starting to see the usefulness of a proper Tunnel Ram induction system... The old myth " you can't run a tunnel ram on the street" is a bunch of crap... Now would I choose one Everytime? Nope... It is all about what the intended purpose is...
I hope to make atleast 580hp/520lbft. David has a specific set of numbers he hopes to achieve... If he realizes his goals I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY!

I run two cars with tunnel rams on the street and would never go back to a single induction system. Just built a 427 sbc, made over 600hp on the dyno, hoping to get it installed in the next couple of months. My daily driver in the summer is a 406 sbc in a 79 Camaro and makes close to 580 hp. I have been running a pontiac 1963 SD 421 with a factory "bathtub"tunnel ram with a pair of 750 NASCAR SD AFBs on the street for more than 20 years.Would never even think about something else.5 speed TKO600.

I stand in awe..... My Dad had a '68 Ram Air 400 Firebird...I loved that car when I was growing up. It was loaded had power windows, power steering, automatic, Tach on the hood... That car would fly!

That's the type intake runner layout that would be optimum for my Ford 427 Windsor!
Jim Price of PME told me he has one on the drawing board and is a copy of the 427 FE tunnel wedge manifold but for the 9.5 deck Windsors.
Wish he could be coaxed into making these!

427,that RA V intake was made from a 427 TP intake.The guy that did it is a great welder and machinist.It looks exactly like a factory RA V intake that are impossible to find.They only made a handfull of them.Tom

Hey I wish Jim would pull the trigger also! If you look at the post about the 350 vs 351 Ford made a prototype manifold very similar to the Tunnel port 427 for the Cleveland and in the test that was done by All Miller back in 1970 it did horrible. It made decent top end peak number but killed torque elsewhere in the curve
I don't know if it would be the same on a big inch Windsor with good heads but I for one would be willing to try!

All this talk about Pontiac's and Cleveland's is getting me all reminiscent of my teen years ('71 351C Mustang, '69 400 GTO.)

If the runners are BIG and also are SHORT(er) length then it will be out of phase and lazy too at low rpm. The engine will have a poor low end torque curve.
It is lazy and not in phase (the runners are not in "in phase" resonance to the engine rpm. AND if the cam is mild it will never get real busy at higher rpm as when the intake is coming into phase, the (mild) cam timing ( duration) is too short for good high rpm performance.
The short, and BIG runner "Tunnel Port" manifold is going to want a fair big cam AND a high compression ratio and plenty stiff car gearing to keep the rpms up.
The Weiand hi ram and the Edelbrock (street) tunnel rams have longer length runners (thus are taller) to be "in phase" and resonant at a lower rpm range.
The relative big and short runners of the tunnel port manifold is going to favor high rpm AND want a high compression ratio too.
