TB inlet questions

Post by BOOT »

Ok doing a mild 4 cylinder project for fun and I wanna get rid of the oem zig-zag ribbed ducting. I'm gonna keep the factory airbox because I don't see a need for a cone filter, this vehicle uses the same filter/box for a v6 of almost twice the displacement. Plus I cut the lid & metal in front of it, the placement saves me from having to box in around the cone filter to ensure it gets cooler air.

Question one- I read a few times that the plenum extends past the throttle plate at WOT, how far or how would I calculate it?

Question two- If my goal was not just peak HP but more average(not mileage)how would I size the inlet tube?

Question three- What is the ideal placement for the IAC?

I would like to know number one because of elbow placement and I might keep the inlet tube larger for that distance and stepped down between it and the filter.

Different F.I. systems like "Speed Density" or "Mass Air" will make a big difference here.

I'm interested in question 1 & 2, due to my limited space underhood.

Re IAT, I placed mine directly in the path of the TB - this is on a 2.3 Lima under 30 psi pressure.
