Baseline NGK racing plug for 11.5-1 sbc

Post by redliner »

I am building a Speier headed, Jones .700ish 262/268 @ .050 lift solid roller cammed 414 sbc. I am going to dyno it and wondered where to start with NGK plugs 6,7,8 ? I would like to bring plugs with me to cover different heat ranges I might need to dial the engine in.This motor will run on 100 octane aviation fuel.

The compression ratio is what tells you the plug heat range requirement- What is it ?

I usually run one heat range colder than the HP I think it is going to make

I missed that ! -6 would be pretty safe-- I use -5 all the time in the street racer stuff I build-- It will not make any difference on the dyno- Hotter seem to last longer-- Look at the ground strap after a dyno pull

At that compression 6 should work fine for street and drag, unless you run for an extended time at higher RPM's and temps temps like an oval track or road course, then try a 7.

The coldest 14mm 3/4 reach NGK racing plug I find is R5671-7, so I guess that is what I must baseline it with...

Does ngk make a short plug like the 5671 in a resister model with a hotter heat range like a 5 or 6
