440sbc build input
Buddy informed me he has a bowtie block & some parts to start a 440 build..hes done a bunch, has a 450 thats running high 8s/9s in a C4
Do not care about manners or mpg thats for babies.
3200 lb C4, ZF 6 spd (unbeakable)3.45 gear, ac the works
Was thinking AFR 235s? do want to go solid roller, no crazy ramp, has to makes power and lives awhile
More than likey will do up a ported single plane and carb, dont want EFI
Dont want toooo much low end grunt want the bulk of it mid-top.
What say ye, who has done this before?
Know HR is smarter I just dont like them period for my own reasons.
Car has to be a solid 10 sec runner, not "in ideal mineshaft air" deal.
DA isnt the best where Im moving, dont think this 383 is going to satisfy me. Figure I can have a complete car for 15k rather than 50 and she can drive it
any proven recipes?

So even in high DA, youre looking at a 500-550hp engine at 3200lbs, not that hard to do at those cubes.

Re: 440sbc build input
been collecitng parts for a while myself to build a 440 also. i went with afr235's due to budget, airflow, etc etc. after all the research ive done, imo the 235's are a minimum sized head on a 440sbc.

I have a guy with a 650 hp 406,.3700+ pounds with driver all steel 70 Monte, he runs low 10's at over 130, in street trim.cstraub wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2018 2:42 pm 650HP will put you solid in the 10's based on 3600#. That's 1.477HP per cube. That's doable on pump gas. Any head in the 2.3 MCSA size along with flow numbers around 300 cfm at .600" lift will achieve this. The AFR235 head is nice piece. The All Pro stuff by Bob is top notch.
Re: 440sbc build input
You don't really need a 440, a 421 would do fine & be a lot easier on the checkbook.

Re: 440sbc build input
Understand a smaller motor can do it, betting my 383 is capable just dont want to have to push a motor as hard to do it..less maintenance
for once do something a little more sensible.
Still stuck on the solid, wondering about a ballpark cam-soething in the low-mid 250s intake should do it or more?

And, 3.875 stroke would fit in the block easier and have a better chance of clearing the cam.
