$10,000 To Buy and Build A Car...What Would You Build?
If you were given $10,000 to buy and build a race car, what would be your choice of car or truck and what combo?

fox body mustang without question if its about going fast for cheap. Then a small block chevy engine with nitrous. It can easily weigh 2700 pounds or less.

Thats what I have and the amount I have in it.

The other option would be an F body because I have more experience with those and can be made to work with minimal $'s

A Fox Body, SN-95 or New Edge Mustang or a F-Body would be competitive and cheaply ascertained. There are stock bottom end nitrous assisted 5.7 346 LS1 F-Body cars in the 8.90s. That probably would be very competitive for $10,000 total. A stock block 557 BBF with a used set of A-460 heads would be tough too.

A nice G-body with a junkyard LS, turbo 400 and a 9 inch. Maybe even a turbo if I could be frugal enough with that $10,000

Wont even need a set of A head to get 890s. Uncles 3000lb 71 Cougar runs 890 560s with a 505 stroker. TFS heads flow just over 400cfm on the intake.

Something with a Chevy motor that isn't a Camaro or Nova. The price of those bodies in rough condidtion could easily eat your entire budget. You didn't say what you were going to do with it. For a street car, any of the later GM B bodies can still had for cheap. Big inch Olds, Buick, and Pontiac were stock. Many came with a 10 bolt using the 8.5 gears, huge brakes, and some with overdrive. Every time I drive this car someone pulls up next to me and gives me the thumbs up.

I quoted 8.90s with a nitrous stock bottom end 346 ls1 as being a quick cheap combination. I am sure if one was frugal enough that they could find a nice set of second hand A heads, build a BBF stroker up to 557 and run faster than 8.90s and muscle. I just dont know if there would be any room left in the budget for a plate system. The BBF would really cook with A heads and a plate.

That's an old picture because that guy hasn't been the starter since about 1986-87.
