Enginelabs just dis a BB ford

Post by oldhead »

Take a look, they think its great at 554 hp, I am thinking a BBC could beat that by atleast 50 hp with the same limitations. What you think :D :D :D :D Oldhead PS:You guess right,I love chevys

That's Not a BBF. It's a Ford FE engine. You might call it a medium block engine, but not a big block. It came out in 1958 and has inline valves etc... That's a nice build by Barry. Looks like a bone stock engine, but makes very good power.

A BBF is the 385 series engine that has canted valves as a big block chevy does. The BBF is capable of every bit of power that a BBC is with a comparable build, (if not more).

What we like has no effect on what the engine is capable of. (It doesn't care what we think)

So true, and FE (332ci-428ci) is really a big small block and cyl head wise is more comparable to a small block chrysler just with bad ports! Thats a great effort out of that combo.
As said the 385/Lima BBF will cane a chevy anyday, even with a chevy being painted red which as we know makes anything go faster ! \:D/

I call it medium because of the bore spacing. I think of small blocks in the 4.4" range, medium in the 4.6" range and big as 4.8" and up.

That's my opinion and description. I don't get into the Chevy vs Ford vs Mopar vs whatever...

Those are all medium blocks. The real big blocks are the late Cad and Packard V8s - 5.000"

That old FE made 552 hp with factory exhaust manifolds, the small bore (4.09") pedestrian block (390), and an off the shelf old school flat tappet cam (Comp 294S). Not too shabby.

I didn't see you at the EMC with your Chivy making more horsepower. Until then, don't bash those who actually build the engines. Joe-71

It should be mentioned and applauded that Barry brings to the EMC the FEs he builds and sells to customers. He doesn't win, but he will sell to anyone that engine or one just like it and not break the bank.

I did that engine for a reason...

I have done plenty of more expensive 427 based builds that made way more power.

Bring your 396 with cast manifolds and a straight pattern flat tappet & we can compare
