i was digging through my collection of old sbc cranks and i found an odd one. Its got the common 3932442 casting number but its on the flexplate mounting flange. Its a 2 pc seal, but it has giant letters NF cast on it and hencho en mexico on the bottom throw. After i washed it up a little i got to thinking that maybe its a forged crank. It looks way different than all my other cast cranks. The parting line on the top throw even has the grinding-like mark on it. But all internet info says that casting number is a cast crank. Anyone seen this before?

hit it with a grinder and if the sparks are orange it is cast iron and if steel they will brighter.

Re: SBC crank ID help
i think i came to the conclusion that its just a cast crank and it looks different because it was made in mexico. Sparks are orange on it and a regular crank. Hammer test sounds the same as well.

Generally, a cast crank will go, "thud", when hit with a small hammer and a, "forged", crank will ring like a, "bell".
