E85 questions
What is a safe bsfc with E85? -carburated circle track engine. Plugs look lean- exhaust temps at peak power were 1240. I am new to E85, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: E85 questions
How does BSFC have anything to do with weather or not the engine is running rich or lean? With E-85 I doubt that you'll ever see any significant color on the plugs unless it is super rich.
Re: E85 questions
That's why I asked- doesnt fuel consumption and engine run time compute to a reasonable estimate on air/ fuel ratio? -just asking.

Re: E85 questions
Not usually.
It will show how efficient the engine is.
The range for E85 is around .6 - .7 BSFC (Nat. Apsirated)
Could use it to figure out the PPH of fuel needed for your HP.
(like how big your pump/injectors etc are needed)

Re: E85 questions
What did it do when you jetted it around on the dyno? Were you able to get a jet that gave the best horsepower without giving up torque? Take a look inside of the headers and exhaust ports. They should look black where they are cool and white where they are not. The exhaust valve will be white while the port is black, almost sooty. Inside of the tubes they will be black up near the head and then white as they get away from the head, collector, black.
Re: E85 questions
I haven’t made any changes yet, wanted to run it just how the customer ran it. Start of run it was around .5-.52, by the end it was at .62.
Re: E85 questions
What was it at torque peak, out of curiousity?

Re: E85 questions
Mine have always been around .60. E85 plugs dont show a whole lot. They always look white with maybe a slight tint...nothing like gas.
