Re: Super stock hp level?
two examples I know from experience
[1] a 327 SBC with 4.070 bore and 3.265 stroke and a fully worked super stock head [iron casting like a 041] [300 horse, double hump head] Victor E intake .800 plus lift will make about 580 horse and operate between 7200 - 8800 RPM little more or less depending on which carb]
[2] a 350 SBC with 4.070 bore and 3.50 stroke with the above heads and Q-jet can make as much as 610 range

I don't think that most racers ever run the high horsepower combos like say the Boss 351. Instead they would run the 4V with low compression or instead of a 340 Chrysler they would instead run a 360 etc. I've never really understood those classes in how they bracket race some of the time but other times they don't.
Re: Super stock hp level?
I had a customer dyno a 350/300hp with a set of Dart legal heads and it made 610hp in Augusta Kansas.
Re: Super stock hp level?
Anything over 600 is getting serious when you figure what they have to work with. Yes Dave so many weight factors per combo its tough to figure. Why do you think boss combo not ran? To many weight handicaps for top guys?Ive had one guy here after my AA open chamber heads. And they have the 2v size valves.Only thing i can figure is they work better with the bore size better?

Re: Super stock hp level?
Super Stock cars produce amazing amounts of horsepower, considering the class rules. Stock front suspension, engine in original location/no setback, full interior, etc., etc. Most of them weigh from 3500 to 4200 pounds.
Super Stock classes don't really "bracket race" however the car must be dialed in so that it can be run according to where it qualified (many cars are capable of running over one second quicker than the class index). When two cars in the same class (i.e. SS/JA) are running each other, there is no handicap - heads up start.

To add to the above, a 305 combo with 1.84 intake, 1.5 ex valves, 8.8:1 compression, a ported Victor Jr, and a legal q-jet, 540hp range

Re: Super stock hp level?
I know most stock classes have to run stock lift cam any duration. Stock intake and carb for engine type/year. Body style engine was offfered in etc. So if you look at a boss 351 cam lift it was .477 lift. Nothing aggressive at all.

Racing a NA NHRA stocker should be mandatory before any posting.

Re: Super stock hp level?
in SS we have to run stock carb size, stock size valves, retain the stock runner head volume (porting is allowed) bore size up to 80 over , any cam size, and we have a limit on CC on the head....we have very strict rules in SS.... most of the classes that the OP was talking about are in the 2500-3000lbs range....Most of the SB combos make 540 to 580hp....a good one makes 600+cjperformance wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2017 5:16 pmSteve, what are the rules in the particular class you are referring to?Steve.k wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2017 3:49 pm Anything over 600 is getting serious when you figure what they have to work with.
