Engine Masters' Air Filter Test
I saw this video over on Youtube and I thought it was very interesting. Their results seem to be very similar to what I've observed on my own but I've never tried the velocity stack. In the past I've seen that putting the carburetor top way down in a hole using a spacer under the filter base can be very bad for the fuel curve. Interesting stuff none the less:

Definitely interesting. I'm surprised that big block didn't swallow some of those filters, lol.

Re: Engine Masters' Air Filter Test
I wonder if the length of the bowl vents caused the problem with the dropped bottom air cleaner being too close to lid ??
Re: Engine Masters' Air Filter Test
Would the choice of dressing make a difference?

Re: Engine Masters' Air Filter Test
I thought the most interesting result was the K&N filter lid with the sides taped shut. It was kind of like a short wide velocity stack.

One of the engine builders I know told me they dyno tested those 'filter tops' and the K&N 'knock-offs' just killed the HP while the brand name one did about as expected... just a little better than none.

Disappointed no R2C was involved in that testing. Off to find a nice used salad bowl
Re: Engine Masters' Air Filter Test
I was wondering when they would post that vid.

Amsoil was the sponsor and they didn’t try out an oil bath air cleaner.
Unbelievable!

Re: Engine Masters' Air Filter Test
I was hoping to see the salad bowl without the filter media compared to the open velocity stack.

Re: Engine Masters' Air Filter Test
Should also have tried a properly shaped velocity stack like you see on some turbo inlets nowadays.

That agrees with my testing. One of the engine builders I know told me they dyno tested those 'filter tops' and the K&N 'knock-offs' just killed the HP while the brand name one did about as expected... just a little better than none.
'extreme top' did nothing, best for HP was a regular 3x14" K&N with a chrome lid - on a 600hp small block.
