SBC Valve Spring Recommendation

Post by wilson1970 » Wed Oct 11, 2017 7:18 am

Recommended valve springs for a SBC hydraulic roller street engine .596/ .236/242@.050 with a 1.5 rocker. Comp, Isky, Pac etc? Also can much be gained by using a 1.6 ratio rockerover a 1.5?

What O.D. spring are you looking for..something to fit the stock diameter spring seats, are the spring seats cut for 1.500 springs already, etc. ?

Rocker wise I do not think you will gain much unless your running inaccurate steel rockers now, but also if you swap you will likely need different push Rods also to max out the new ratio!
Personally I think your pick of 200 cc heads and that small of a Cam does not match up to well in terms of where those heads want to make peak HP!
I think that 185 CC heads with your cid would serve you much better in terms of average HP and TQ numbers.

Those heads only ship set up for .560" lift, your where running well over that, was this done by means of cutting the spring seat pads , or longer valves?
At any rate no one will be able to recommend a spring for you unless you post up your current installed height?

I prefer PAC Racing springs and I am also a dealer for them. I will get you a part number shortly and then you can decide what you think. As far as whether or not you want to use the 1.6 rockers may or may not change the spring number also. Some heads won't allow that much lift without cutting the guides down as well.

Yes they were cut .060 for the deeper spring pockets. What the installed height is currently I do not remember.

As a quick check you may be able to use the PAC Hot Rod Series kits which include springs, retainers, locators, locks, and seals. I would just need to know if they'll work with your installed height. Just get a measurement with your valves and we'll see where we're at.

Their most common and most economical kit installs at 1.800" and is good for at least .625" lift. That may be close to your installed height now since there isn't a whole lot of difference in the lift of the cam you are taking out. However always best to be sure. If we need to change to a different spring that is possible as well. If you happen to need pricing just message me and we can get you what you need and the prices to go with it.

Isky 8005A , 130@1.875 395@1.225 C.B.1.160 .650 max lift 400 lb/in rate. I have used these in the past on a similar 350 hyd roller with crane lifters . Also have used K motion K800 ,never had valve control issues with either. Dan
