HP WITH SMALLER CARBURETOR
Anyone with some experience with restrictor plates might be able to help me on this.On an engine that makes 700hp at 7400rpm on the Dyno with a 1.400 venturi(850) carburetor, need an idea of what HP it would make with a 500cfm-4412 Holley.

If you are lucky, it will only loose about 100 horsepower

The 4412 Holley will flow right around 400CFM if flowed the same way as a 4 barrel. On my bench I got 397-398.

How big is the engine and brand ?perfconn wrote:Anyone with some experience with restrictor plates might be able to help me on this.On an engine that makes 700hp at 7400rpm on the Dyno with a 1.400 venturi(850) carburetor, need an idea of what HP it would make with a 500cfm-4412 Holley.

360ci SBC dirt track. Will have to run against the 604 crate motors that make 445hp on the same Dyno.Just wondering if it was practical.

Just unhook the secondary link and you'll have a pretty close comparison.

A 600 cfm Carb at the 500 hp level sounds to me like the fuel metering wil be starting to get a little ragged no?

Peak torque RPM will not change much, so you will have a very narrow powerband.

Re: HP WITH SMALLER CARBURETOR
I'm not so sure this helps, but in a circle track class that allowed a
604 crate engine with a 600 4bbl carb, a cam and a rocker change, OR a 358 cu/in 4412 engine (Bowtie Vortec heads with no porting) but no other rules, we made about the same Hp as the 604's (mid 490's) this was backed up in practice lap times too.
However, in the races, the 604's with the 4bbl were often just a bit better.

Re: HP WITH SMALLER CARBURETOR
There is much more too it than just sticking a 2 barrel carb on it. Cam has to be changed to get there. Valve job will be different especially on exhaust. 2 barrel motors really suffer with the goings on in the exhaust. You have to stop the reversion. You have to do work on the valves and you will need "ditches" on the valves.
