Says heat treated...wonder if I were to make some from a grade 8 bolt if that would be hard enough material?

It needs to be open for oiling though right?

Yes, all the time.
Racing a NA NHRA stocker should be mandatory before any posting.

NOT with hydraulic roller lifters having tie bar buttons ... the plunger won't come out.

If you are not willing to get new pushrods then you are probably not in a situation where you actually NEED restricted travel hydraulic roller lifters.

it's a long shot, but it's possible the PR length is not optimal now and could be a better match with the lowered cup..

I was told by a learned fellow on here;

"made lifter spacers from 4130 tubing and even aluminum, if its a solid slug"

Would only need a small clearance around a solid spacer to oil, no?

Fwiw, I run the S&S limiters in crane 10530 ['87 up chevy] lifters in my twin cam HD, 1/4 turn from bottomed. I have also run same lifters with no spacer 1/2 turn from bottomed.

Just note that in some hyd lifters you cant 'bottom' the plunger as it can cover the oil feed so in this case you have to spacer above and below or just below to get oil feed and then do pushrod length according to your mods.

So those S&S spacers go on top of the pushrod cup? How much travel is left in the lifter total in thousandths? I can see where limiting the lifter from the top would solve a few problems, like the material its made from and getting the plunger past the rivets. The engine I plan to make spacers for is not built yet, still acquiring parts for it so actually pushrod length isn't an issue for me. I was just thinking about someone who would be dyno testing a particular combo and tested a standard lifter vs. travel limited and would already have the pushrods bought. Is there any other reason or benefit other than that to limit the travel above the cup vs. internal under the piston? Just trying to learn some things is all, this is old hat to most but I'm interested in the subject.

They go under the piston. I'm guessing that they reduce travel by 1/2

What Craig wrote is worth repeating;
