Correctly means follow the directions and don't overwrap to speed up the erosion, not corrosion that so many think is the result. The trapped heat erodes the metal from the inside until it becomes so weak it crumbles. I want to try n control the effect for limited concentrated erosion then take the wrap off. THEN I'll have the manifold ceramic coated inside & out.

You have lost me, but in my world, any wrap is "overwrap", and it's not possible to "wrap correctly", which is what I was trying to see if you had a holy grail answer, not yet it appears, from my vantage point.

You have YOUR answer and I'm not gonna waste time arguing with you about why you don't like or think wrap is worth it. I've stated my purpose of this thread clearly as I can.

Subarus.......the EJ20 WRX etc.

They have sheet metal shields all along the exhaust.
The last one I played with, it had white powder inside, that's between the shield and the pipe.
Looks just like asbestos......maybe it IS. Not good for breathing?......not even a warning in the manual.
JDM of course......but what about the US specced ones?

Heat wrap from the factory?
Don't be silly.

That'll solve all the problems, just use asbestos like in the good old days.

Thoughts?

It's going to port it's self?
It'll crack before that happens.

Air is a pretty good insulator. Heat shields are best.

I've never seen a wrapped header or exhaust that didn't look like garbage in short order from corrosion.

Cracking is possible I'd think but I've never wrapped cast iron manifolds and hope to have someone who has actually used the stuff comment.
