remote oil filter

Post by Kbails »

I have an issue with getting oil filter off a sbc engine its a moroso kickout pan with 1-7/8 headers and I must remove the header to remove the oil filter I change my filters often and its driving me a lil crazy. I want to know if people are running remote oil filters on drag race setups? it makes me a little nervous to run one, I'm getting mixed opinions on this and would like some feedback.

While it's not a drag car,I have been useing one on my 650 HP big block Monte SS for at elast 10 years now with no ill efects that I can see.
I did replace the rubber hoses that came with it for a set of custom made braided SS hoses.
It sure makes getting the filter off a whole lot easier.

As long as there is no longer than normal time to see oil pressure you are fine.

Nothing to worry about. keep the lines to a respectable length and away from heat and you'll be fine.

How about a right angle adaptor like this? http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Barnes-Sy ... r,109.html
I believe some GM truck SBCs came stock with a huge horizontal filter that wouldn't need such frequent changes...

I'm nervous because I just don't like the idea of having the extra pluming with oil in it at 65-70psi nothing against them just really have no experience with them. thank you maddbill I like that, the right angle adapter seems simple and should work perfect

65 -70 psi oil pressure is not a problem with hydraulic rated hoses.

Just don't cheap out on hose and fittings and it will be fine.

I've sold and installed HUNDREDS of remote oil filters. Damn V8's in boats should never leave the factory without a remote filter. Damn Bean Counters anyway, too cheap to put one on on cause it costs a couple of bucks.

I have nothing against remote filters. As mentioned, upgraded lines and no smaller than -10 to reduce flow losses.

Stay away from 90 degree cast fittings.... Those made with tubing and a nice radius are fine....
