I know guys who broke in cams on the engine build stand using a garden hose for coolant

In my opinion, you are much better off with a good quality radiator and shroud on the engine run-in stand. Stand should also have a good temperature gauge, this will help you observe the efficiency of the cooling system and make changes in eater pump, thermostat, etc., before installing the engine in the car. Properly equipped run-in stand will allow you to break-in the camshaft, observe oil pressure, water temperature and locate/fix oil and water leaks before installing the engine OR showing customers that their engine runs well, with good oil pressure and no leaks when they arrive to pick up the engine.
Let Mom have the hose back so she can water the flowers . . . . . .

Go to the junkyard and get a 2005up chevy/gmc truck radiator w/dual fan assy. Inexpensive and your run stand is done.
