Re: Another Ford 2 bbl C project.
Gary Roughley of B&A Ford Performance was the guy behind the Clevor intake manifolds. He made both single (Track Boss) and dual (Street Boss) plane intake for running Cleveland heads on Windsor blocks (both 302 and 351W deck heights). He also made a single plane for 8.2" deck height blocks with Windsor heads. I wasn't aware he made a 351M/400 intake but it would make sense. I'd love to see pictures of it if you get the chance. Roughley sold the intake business to Bush Performance in Fort Smith, Arkansas but Tim Meyer (TMeyer Inc) now makes them.
I had a 302 Street Boss dual plane intake that I provided to a friend for his DeTomaso Mangusta. It was a puzzle car that he bought disassembled and restored. The engine was a Trans Am Boss 302 (with the special TA rods and crank, along with Boss 302 heads and intake). The engine was way overbuilt for the street so we tamed it down with a pair of ported Aussie 2V heads, the Street Boss dual plane intake and a Comp 270H cam. Made it much nicer to drive on the street.

Ah, port velocity can be a rewarding thing!

Dan what do a set of boss 302 heads go for these days?I have a guy here with two studded closed chamber 4v and one barely used boss 302 for sale. Didnt really know what price would be.

CJ, any more shots of cut aways you can post up?

Let me know if you want a specific angle or measurement.

What is the stock Throat diameter on that cast?

I will measure that casting tomorrow but they are typically nominal around 1.75" where the machining meets the castingmag2555 wrote:What is the stock Throat diameter on that cast?

Thanks!
Do these Heads use a 2.03" / 52.07 mm Intake valve?

2.04" intake in these (some slight size variance/tolerance)mag2555 wrote:Thanks!

In the cutaway pictured the throat is unported and averages 1.69" where machining meets casting.
I have several other sets of aussie closed and open chamber 2V heads and USA open chamber 2V heads and unported all are between 1.65" & 1.78" in the throat. Port faces are all pretty much the same allowing for a little difference casting to casting.

G,day Craig,
They look like a pre xd casting, bit hard to tell in the photo's?
Below the valve seat there is a straight 90 degree cut?
Cheers

Hi Paul, the cutaway head came off of an XC. Thus shot may be clearer. The 2 angles in white marker are at 90* to each other, the green is the seat and then one angle cut either side of the seat.tuffxf wrote:G,day Craig,

G,day Craig,
Cool, all the pre xd ones ive seen had the actual seat angle with a top cut.
Under the actual seat was just a vertical cut for a small distance.
The castings are slightly different xd onwards where that vertical piece isn't there and it has a factory bottom cut, factory 3 angle seat and blended into the throat better.
From what i've seen so far.
Cheers
Paul

Re: Another Ford 2 bbl C project.
Ive got a pair of late XD closed chambers that I know are as per factory (came off of my own car) and they have the top face cut at 90* to the stem/, then the seat, then the cut parallel to the stem/vertical (90* from top face) then into the throat machining! Then another set if 2vcc from an XE that are almost identical seat wise to the early oc cutaway! Then yeah all the seats that are in reasonable shape and dont appear to have been cut since factory are somewhere inbetween! I recon its a combo of core shift V's whatever cutter the operator chucked into the machine on the day !!tuffxf wrote:G,day Craig,

I have USA oc2v's that were imported on core engines from USA that have seats identical to that cutaway and a couple that have a too cut, chamfer, seat then the throat cut, so all manner of combos are out there.
