stock 383 mopar
1966 Chrysler 300 383 automatic stock everything and exhaust customer had carb problems and he bought a 650 Daemon carb and installed he complains that it has less power than the original (Carter AFB?).
He brought it to the shop and ask my advise on an aluminum manifold. I suggested if he does a manifold he should choose a cam to match the new combo.
He wants a good daily driver street manors with trans and converter.
Whats the recommendation for a manifold to work with the motor and Carb (Spread bore BTW)
If mike Jones is listening maybe he can spec the cam shaft Hyd Flat tappet

Re: stock 383 mopar
If it has stock gears they are probably 2.76-3.23 at best. At about 4,200lbs with the stock 12" convertor and a 3.375 stroke the cam should be kept on the small side. The original AFB for this car has a smaller bolt pattern than a modern carb, did he use an adapter to mount the new carb. The 68 and later mani is pretty good and uses the standard bolt pattern but any dual plane aftermarket mani would work well.
Re: stock 383 mopar
Can his engine readily be turned into a Road Runner 383?
I ask because back then, they were STRONG for no more than what they were.
727 and 3.23 reg's.
$2995 right out the door!

Re: stock 383 mopar
I think the demon carb is where most of his power went, I have never seen one that made great power, even though they are modeled after the Holly carb they seem to work different
Re: stock 383 mopar
Why not address the real problem? The Carb. May be combined with another simple problem like the ignition system (advance curve stuck etc).
Re: stock 383 mopar
I would suggest a cast iron 1968-1970 (maybe 1967 also?) intake manifold and a 440 spec (750 CFM) Carter. Any year 440 carb should work. I just can’t see spending the money on a aluminum intake or cam with the weight, gears, convertor, etc., that your customer wants to retain.

Re: stock 383 mopar
Is this a trick question? It ran better with the Carter AFB. This doesn't surprise, a most underrated carb.
Put the damn thing back on! Or use can Edel AFB. Pretty sure the E carbs have the dual bolt pattern, so it will bolt on without an adapter.

The base Edelbrock performer Intake with a good rebuilt Theroquad will provide better drivability then the stock set up and also better top end power!
For any low deck of high deck Mopar with stock heads and shifting at 5500 it does not get any better then this!

The only new vehicle I had was a 69 Dodge 383 Super B, 4 speed, 3.23 gears...Being young and dumb I bought a new 780 Holley and bolted it in place of the stock Carter AVS 750 cfm???. Out of the box the Holley had better throttle response but I don't believe it was actually faster...

1966 Chrysler 300, 325 Horsepower 383; 4 Barrel, 4.25 x 3.375, 383, 10:1 compression, HP 325 @ 4800, TQ 425 @ 2800,
3.23 rear axle, 3940 lbs curb weight. S o with driver and fuel probably around 4250 lbs?
I hear a lot of different suggestions of various directions that are not ideally what the owner wants so I am hoping some clarifications will help the group focus.
I am on top of what it takes to make a SBC 383 make a flat torque curve of 500 ft lbs and 425+ HP with a mild lop in the idle looking to get something similar with induction and a camshaft he has a decent looking cast exhaust and duals he is open to headers but I am not sure how much the cast will limit him if the cam peaks at 5200 +- RPM

Re: stock 383 mopar
If he wants it to work and he's willing to spend money, tell him to do a mild torque converter change 1800-2500 ish stall atleast 3.23 gears headers a perform or performer rpm and i would think a cam similar to this would work HUG SEH1016BL-1

Yes its magazine gobbledygook BUT this lists some good options for intake manifolds. There are 2 parts to the series:
