I've had 2 of those 327 AFB's over the years and they worked good, wish I would have kept them LOLTuner wrote:
If they would just clone the Carter AFB 3721 (600 CFM) '64 300-340 HP 327, a dual quad pair like the 3361-3362 '62-'64 409, a big single (750 CFM) 3783 409 single 4bbl. they would come a lot closer to pleasing people.

Just be aware that these 450cfm 4bbl holleys lack a secondary accelerator pump.levisnteeshirt wrote:Lots of options with 2 9776 450 holleys
Will probably likely give a nice bog hesitation in throttle response and poor drag launch with a tunnel ram Especially with a auto trans.
A tunnel ram that has small cfm carbs on it usually requires a big(er) plenum volume
to make best power. This will require a fair size volume of accelerator pump shot
to instantly change the AFR of that whole internal volume of the tunnel ram.
You really need double pumper carbs or carbs with secondary air doors.
But you could try it. May need a transbrake to get a clean drag launch.
Adding larger 50cc acc pumps may help. may need a special accelerator pump linkage set up
Biased-adjusted to allow a full volume of the full available shot from the drag staging throttle position on launch. May take some work.
These are not dedicated tunnel ram carbs. So just be aware and be prepared to play with them to get it right.
Best to make your AMC tunnel ram so that you can both adjust the plenum volume and the plenum/carb height.

No tech ,, could put downleg boosters and 650-750 baseplates on a 450 ,, secondary metering blocks , switch to 4 corner idle ,, 1 to 1 linkage , on and on
Re: 2 500cfm carbs on a tunnel ram vs a single 4150.
If you make all these parts swaps to get increased air flow from the 450's and with that you do end up killing all the
competition (especially the single carb cars) , you can a be sure some one will complain and look or make tech look close to see what the carbs really are....
You will only get away with a highly modded cheater carb
once or twice, . Then your very expensive modded carbs are essentually useless (for that event and rules).
The edelbrock carbs are much cheaper to start with.
The tweeks and (any if) airflow mods come at lower cost too.
And are simpler and stock appearing as well.
With a tunnel ram competing against a bunch of single carbed cars YOU WILL GET ALL THE ATTENTION. and if you do win, will receive even more attention and rules interpretation.
Looking for a way to disqualify you. "1000 cfm" rule limit.

I wouldn't hit a bull in the ass for an edelbrock carb

Makes blowin' your doors off with dual quads all the sweeter.

I believe the correct phrase is ...
"None of these guys can hit a bull in the ass with a handful of mustard seed."

If i was going through all the hassle to design a tunnel and two 500 two barrels it would be getting something similar to these. http://www.enginelabs.com/features/sema ... or-racers/

i'm thinking one of these and 2 hp 390's on e85 should be good to go.

Camking, Madbill, Warpspeed, and at least one more, you guys got me laughing so hard i started sweating and had to get another shower
Re: 2 500cfm carbs on a tunnel ram vs a single 4150.
they are a very simple and easy carb to work on. I have 2 750's on my street SBC 383 and love them. once set I have never needed to touch them again.levisnteeshirt wrote:I wouldn't hit a bull in the ass for an edelbrock carb
Re: 2 500cfm carbs on a tunnel ram vs a single 4150.
Once I got my Holley set, I don't ever have to touch it again either...then I change something and I have to touch it again. Its a horrible cycle, but I keep at it somehow.
