Dealing With Right Stuff

I've long lost track of the number of "wheels I've reinvented", so this is likely just one more, but:
Between being buried deep under the windshield and frame tubes plus welded in place by healthy beads of Right Stuff, we had a major struggle today getting the intake manifold off our SBF racer. Upon reassembly, I plan to position lengths of picture hanger wire across the china walls inboard of the RS beads, with the ends protruding through the beads by several inches. Next time the manifold has to come off, winding the ends around a pair of bolt to act as handles should allow it to be wielded like those wire saws used in windshield replacement.

OK, now someone can tell me Jegs has been selling them for twenty years.

I normally just cut through the right stuff with a snap blade knife. Works ok for me. I am talking about right stuff on china walls only.

Mineral spirits helps dissolve cured right stuff soak some paper towels and leave it on for a bit

Exactly! At the front we preferred not to pull the distributor thus limiting ourselves re access to the china wall and at the rear the engine is right up against the firewall, doing the same.

I figured the small diameter (~ 0.030"?) of the picture hanger wire would act as a sharper knife, but IDK about guitar string diameters.

BTW, we were chasing a misfire on cyls. 1 & 2.(front two, right bank for the Ford-challenged) The engine is a sealed dry sump unit so we screwed a hose fitting into the thread for the vacuum break and blew into it. Presto: air puffing up through the carb! The thick intake gasket had crushed enough over time and re-torques for the manifold to bottom out on the china wall, creating big leaks from the valley.

I quit using Right Stuff long time ago. Ultra Grey is all you need on any china wall. I always roughen the block and intake china wall sealing surface with a long line of centre punch divots and number stamps for an id code.

I had a right stuff manifold top adapter that needed to come off. No real way to pry, push, pull and cuss at it.
I finally warmed it up with a hand held propane torch and got it to move.

Great Stuff seals well but I've stopped using it because of disassembly issues. Valco All In One Aluminum Silicone is the best stuff I've found.

I used the bolt lifting trick on my 671,only my Blower set up used a adapter plate so just drilled and tapped another bolt hole from the bottom of the plate to push up on the blowers Gasket surface.
I used only silicone sealer for gasket after a while and with that many sq in of gasket sealing surface binding things together I had to also apply a Base ball Bat under the Blower snout and get leverage with it over the Alternator to pop things free!

We're JK, there actually is no such tool AFAIK.

These things are worth their weight in gold; and Valco's RTV's are fantastic. We use the tube grip and their Ultra Grey RTV on every transmission/transfercase we build. You can use their tube-grip pliers on any tube of goo; RTV, silicone, etc. Those tube grip pliers are so good I bought a set for myself. Valco also makes a similar functioning (but different design) product for small tubes like toothpaste, neosporin etc.

I hardly ever use Right Stuff anymore, but if you choose to / need to; I love the piano wire idea and the "push-bolt" is genius.
