didn't Jon Kaase enter a mod motor in engine masters that made over 700 hp?Casper393W wrote:In factory form the 2v engines are wedge based. I have been building Mod Motors since 2002. I currently have built the most powerful NA 2v engine with more to come.pdq67 wrote:I just thought?
What kind of engine is a 2-valve Ford Mod one? They do make one, don't they?
I would think that if the heads were wedge and not hemi, that one would be a very compact little engine, but I know nothing about the Mod engine family?

The engine is a 304" using Trickflow heads that flow 300/225 cfm that is from 1.94/1.55 valves. Edelbrock Vic Jr intake that has been highly worked over but is wide as a house and is hindering power above 7000 rpm. We are working on a tunnel ram setup with 2 built Holley 660's
We have hopes that this will push us close to the 700hp level!
Here is a pic of the engine

Re: Largest little V-8 you can make.
I had a customer build a 454 SBC with a set of my 265cc 23º heads and a 272 cam. Peaked at 7600 with a Dominator and 2970.
He ran 9.20's at 3200lbs w/ 9" tire.

Re: Largest little V-8 you can make.
For 2013, Engine Masters Challenge set the minimum cubic inches at 400 and allowed the mod motor to enter, not thinking that 281 cubic inch motor could be taken out to 400 cubic inches.
Jon Kaase Racing won with a 409 cubic inch version of the mod motor 658 torque at 4200 RPM
720 HP at 6400 RPM
Accufab Racing got second with a 401 cubic inch version of the mod motor 648 torque at 4400 RPM
736 HP at 6400 RPM
BES Racing got third with a 401 cubic inch version of the mod motor 632 torque at 5400 RPM
775 HP at 7000 RPM
I don't believe the mod motor has been allowed to run since.

Re: Largest little V-8 you can make.
I'm having a hard time relating "small" to the Mod motor unless referring to the 4.6 L displacement.
So much to do, so little time...
Re: Largest little V-8 you can make.
Isn't that the truth. The 4.6L in my work van runs strong for such a small displacement engine in a heavy vehicle. However, the 6.2L in my Raptor, runs very strong. CAI,computer retune, and Magnaflow dual exhaust. Yes, they have large external dimensions. I have run these mod motors over 300,000 hard miles with no problems.
Re: Largest little V-8 you can make.
They are rather bulky....walking along a long row of engines in a salvage yard, the LS looks tiny to any of the OHC V-8 and even some V-6's...rfoll wrote:I'm having a hard time relating "small" to the Mod motor unless referring to the 4.6 L displacement.

All of the engine masters Mod entries were 4 valve engines.... The 2V world is completely different!
We have a 6.2 SOHC that we are going to build... Those factory heads in ported form have seen 400cfm! The only problem is lack of support from the aftermarket!

I will also mention that those engines are 5.4l based.AMXstocker1 wrote:didn't Jon Kaase enter a mod motor in engine masters that made over 700 hp?Casper393W wrote:In factory form the 2v engines are wedge based. I believe the Engine masters had a 436 LS Chevy making about 730 HP.....

No LS engine has ever matched the 1/4 time set by a Mod Motor 5.88 @ 250 mph. With a factory block and heads.
Re: Largest little V-8 you can make.
The 2v world reminds me of Cavalier enthusiasts. They mostly don't run 'em because they are a good choice, they run 'em because that's all they got and they'll be damned if they ain't gonna run SOMEthing.Casper393W wrote:All of the engine masters Mod entries were 4 valve engines.... Mark VIII engines are still cheap and even a bad 4v head is better than a good 2v head. So why aren't people swapping out?
(I have to take an aside to point out that the 2.2l in most Cavaliers is a great engine on paper. 44mm intake valves in a 2.2l engine? Volkswagen guys would kill to be able to run valves that big! And the ports look phenomenal from a shape point of view. If only someone made decent cams for these engines! I'd run a 2.2 in a heartbeat if good cams were available for them)
Re: Largest little V-8 you can make.
Quite impressive that it can handle 52 psi boost...There's a Toyota "Supra" running high 5's using a mega boosted inline 6....Casper393W wrote:No LS engine has ever matched the 1/4 time set by a Mod Motor 5.88 @ 250 mph. With a factory block and heads.

FWIW Brian Thomson built me a 442 inch LS motor with Harrop ITB intake that made 740 HP on his dyno on pump gas with stock Corvette LS7 exhaust manifolds.Truckedup wrote:I believe the Engine masters had a 436 LS Chevy making about 730 HP.....
Specs on that motor were 4.130" Bore x 4.125" Stroke. 11.8:1 Compression Ratio. Cam specs .669/.685 lift, 251/262 duration @.050, 113/118 deg lobe separation.
Last pull peak power 739.9 @6500 peak torque 652.1 @5400

Re: Largest little V-8 you can make.
The same year EMC had the mods we entered a 428 Pontiac that made 730/662..
It was an unfair event. 4 vs 2, that is 2 too many...
