how do you remove a drive spud from the back of a cam?
I have a used roller cam from a sprint car, it has a drive spud screwed into the back of the cam. I have ZERO experience with drive spuds, don't want to plunge ahead blindly and mess something up. I assume they are right hand thread? Any tricks to removing them?

For the ones I have used, just get an allen type wrench which fits and remove it ... it may need some high heat as a lot are Loctited in place.falcongeorge wrote:I have a used roller cam from a sprint car, it has a drive spud screwed into the back of the cam. Thanks Walter, I stuck an allen wrench in it and leaned on it, it didn't move, so I thought they may be left hand thread, figured I should stop and check, in case I was tightening it like a dumbass! Ill heat it up a bit and try again.

Right hand threads use a impact and a allen socket if its out of the engine if it is still in the engine use hand tools only no lock tight you might have too change it at the track

if you can't get it loose just grind it off flat with the end of the cam

All I do are sprint engines. Threads are rh. NEVER use loccktite anti seize only. Yes sometimes my vise moves trying to remove them then I go to my bigger vise for real. 24" breaker bar the threads are 9/16x18

Correct ... never use Loctite on 'em however, that does not stop some unknowing people from using it anyway.
