I think the fuel pump opening and valley both suffer from high speed oil droplets being blasted in by the windage cloud. The Little M might be worse with respect to the FP opening because of the splayed mains (less bay to bay breathing around the caps versus the OEM 4-bolt caps). Seems like that effect of trapping windage was an issue with a Salt Flat Studebaker engine with 4-bolt mains (been a few years since I looked at that). The skirts/pan-rails of the SBC are very tight to the rotating assembly.
