MAF position and reduction hose before MAF.

Post by emre2blue »

Hi

I'm building my car, with twice as power as original. I put bigger turbo, bigger MAF, bigger MAP sensor. Now Air Intake pipe diameter is 88.9mm 3" but my bigger MAF is 80mm. So I had to put reduction silicon hose before & after MAF. some of my friend told me it will make MAF sensor to measure incorrect air flow. How is this possible. because pipe is not big enough to cause turbulence. 85.9mm is inside, MAF is 80mm, only 3mm difference in radius.

What can you tell me? Is it possible to run? Can the effect of turbulence - if there is one - be negligible?

great job
taper into the MAF
a short smaller restriction will make no difference (just like the little valve in your water supply at the meter)
it's sharp 90 degree elbows that get you
box in the air filter for cool air
where's the inter-cooler or are they legal?

Intercooler will be a water to air Intercooler. I moved the battery to trunk. And make a custom new fuse box in front of the engine. So I opened a lot of space. I bought a new radiator for water, now I am making new caps for it.

I've designed an Intercooler

And Found it from a local radiator shop, luck me. but this has 36cm long core, I need 25cm long core, so he will chop it and re-weld it.

Any deviation from stock airbox and post-MAF ducting will also change the MAF readings, so you have to tune it regardless

Just rotating the MAF 30 degrees in its housing will also change the readings!

We will make a new map for whole the car. I have bigger diesel injectors for quantity, Higher Pressure Fuel Pump, so I have to tune it as I put the MAF now.

also ı want to ask you, you know pipe size is increasing and decreasing at the end. How does it affect the flow readings ?
