Re: Ported Ford 289 heads with port energy discussion
First, I am sure my port is cleaner. Given that things shift as temps rise how do the big boys set up the valve seat to last?

Warp, I am not sure I can teach you anything. I just thought it was interesting how the port and chamber directed the flow. Much different than a chevy. But still has a strong swirl at higher lifts. Thanks, CharlieWarp Speed wrote:And the pattern will change big time as the location/angle of attack of the water hose.
We are learning what here?!?

Just when you figured you have had enough anchor action, I need to apply a bit if what I have learned on this thread. 65 289 heads. Super rough porting or gauging as it may be. 1.85" intake and 1.5" exhaust. I will try to keep these ports less cc than the last set and still get similar airflow numbers. Is it possible? I think it is. I even left the guides full height for a few of you. Flow em tomorrow. Thanks, Charlie

90+ degree garage so I only flowed the intake. 1.85" valve backcut, bowl rough burred, stock pinch, light ssr cut, light wall and roof cut. Slight loss at .15" and .2" lifts all other lifts good increase but not spectacular. Peak flow 207 cfm @ .75" lift.

Re: Ported Ford 289 heads with port energy discussion
'65 289 head 1.85"/1.5" valves opened pinch a bit, raised roof a bit and a decent ssr cut. I want to do all the measurements and port energy graphs before I go any further. If I can keep the port small and get the port energy high enough I may be able to convince DV to add one more set of heads to the competition. Thanks, Charlie

1.85"/1.5" valves flows, ft/sec taken at .7" lift.

Thin lines 65 289 heads with smaller valves and ports. Thick lines 1.94"/1.6 set.

I should include the 65 289's are bone stock tight chambers.

Velocity graph, intake is just a bit faster to .4". Exhaust has a much smaller outlet and really cranks the airspeed at the cost of cfm.

Getting interesting for me anyway. While I was grinding these I wanted to keep the port tight and fast to boost the port energy. As you can tell I was not completely successful on the second try. This program sure gets you thinking. Input welcome, any input. Thanks, Charlie

I liked the idea of the tailed guide to aide in swirl. Heads ports look great. I am using this thread and the E7TE thread to port a set of E7's right now. I'm not keen on grinding the guide flat in the exhaust port, but I did it anyway. We will see how they run. I wish I had the tools to get the feedback you are getting. It is nice to be able to grind and check. No, flowbench for me but maybe one day.

If you pay attention to the spec screen and stay close to those measurements you will be damn close. Thanks, Charliecgarb wrote:I liked the idea of the tailed guide to aide in swirl. Stan was nice enough to let me know that I can label the curves and they will clearly show which curves belong to which port. Not 100% sure what to do next on the 65 set. Hopefully more to come this weekend and thanks to Stan.

Thanks! I get that a lot. Maybe someday I will be able to sell some of my junk. The wife wants to know where the checks are for all this work!racear2865 wrote:Car nut--hehe
