No kidding! Can't ask for any better than that.swampbuggy wrote:4SFED: That is amazing that the bearings look that good, if you don't mind sharing information ? clearance, oil type and weight, do you preheat and or prelube? Thanks Mark .

Re: coated bearing
What kind of oil were you using, full synthetic ? weight ? do you preheat oil and or prelube before startup ?
Re: coated bearing
There's nothing unusual in the setup ... in fact the oil supply Is less than perfect. The crank pins are cross-drilled. These bearings are from a turbocharged 2.0 liter 4 cylinder making about 600 hp. Journal diameter is 50 mm, 3.48 stroke at 8000 RPM. Oil is 40wt Royal Purple synthetic, preheated to about 160°F, 200°F running, 3-srage dry sump running 65 psi. The coating is Calico CT-1 (0.0005 diametral). Initial clearance was 0.0018/0.0020 with the crank finished at Shaftech. The uncertainty in the clearance dimension is due to the softness of the coating.swampbuggy wrote:4SFED: That is amazing that the bearings look that good, if you don't mind sharing information ? clearance, oil type and weight, do you preheat and or prelube? It doesn't show well in the photo, but the coating is very thin, almost transparent after 5 years. It works well (the coating) in the a wet sump version of the same engine, but the coating wears faster.
