Top Head Porters for Yates C3 Heads

Post by BlackKnight »

After trying to find a set of C3H heads and not being able to do so, I have decided to see if I can have my C3s tweaked a little in the .400 to .700 lift range. As they are now the flow numbers are low, in my opinion, in that range. Currently they are flowing: 267 @ .400, 323 @ .500, 362 @ .600 and 374 @ .700. On the other hand there guys in Australia who are routinly getting 15 - 18 more cfm throughout (every step of the way) that same flow range and a little more from .800 - 1.000. My heads top out at 388 @ .800, which is not bad but, I'm sure if the heads were 15 - 18 cfm more in the lower lift areas, I will pick up power and if I can get them in the 400 cfm range with a 2.180 intake valve that's even better. Who do you guys recommend I send them to to get the most out of my heads? The valve size is 2.150/1.600, however, I am not opposed to going to a 2.180/1.580 valve arrangement if that will get the heads in the 400 cfm range. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Those flow numbers sound great for a 2.15 valve. If you want more you'll probably have to upgrade to a 2.20 valve if they'll fit. Give Chad a call. He'll probably comment later on today.

Also, many different flow benches flow 15 to 18 CFM more, so it can just be a difference in flow benches, not head quality.

Have these heads that you want reworked been run before, and if so please give details of that motor and include the VE seen on the dyno pulls.

I agree with all of the below, and chances are the bench my heads were flowed on was a little more conservative than the other guy's. However, all the head porters that I have talked with, or made contact with here, all say that the C3 head is maxed out @ 900 hp but, the guy (an Australian Pro Stock guy) that ports the mentioned C3s that are flowing 15 - 18 cfm more than mine in the .400 - .700 range is getting 950 hp out of a 424" engine and mine is a 423", 15:1 deal. I'm sure the intake he used (a ported 2939) is better than my ported 2863, which I don' like and will be changing whether I have the heads tweaked more or not. Also, his cam is a little different than mine too. My cam is a custom comp deal: .876/.876 with Jesel 1.70 Rocker System, 281/293 dur. @ .50 and 115 LSA with 57 degrees of overlap.
