312 ford reverse rotation cam

Post by LCaverly »

Ok guys doing a reverse rotation ford 312 marine y block and the owner wants a little more poop. current cam checks out at 214,214 .414, .414 on a 114 lobe sep I would like to do a 218 224 on a 112 with .480 lift . I figure this will get me in the 260-275 hp range which would be a big improvement on the current 215 hp. Do any of you guy's know where to get a reverse rotation cam done or possibly current cam reground.

My boat has a 351W RR engine and Comp custom ground the cam. Have you called them? Also, Bullet used to custom grind SBF cams as well. Sure the 312 is different. Having a casting is the issue. You will have to call.

Give Steve Demos, Demos' Cams a call he has some lobes that will work well if your core is good.

Back in the 70's I had a pair of 312 boat engines one standard rotation one reverse rotation. The standard one had a timing chain the reverse one had gear to gear driving the cam no idlers the cams both turned the same direction. If that's the same setup your running I'm pretty sure a standard cam will work.

Oh boy... It may be just me, but I had a problems with Web and the cams for my vintage dual engine Triumph LSR bike. The final product was fine but they dropped the ball on quality control and three weeks turned into three months ...

Although the cam will be turning in the standard direction on the reverse rotation engine with a two-gear drive, the crank layout dictates a different firing order, so the stock cam will not work. The distributor gear would be standard, though. Regards, Chase

That makes it a little easier if an off the self part is N/A; a full round core could be ground conventionally with pretty well any lobes.

LEN ... About 10 years ago I used "Predator Cams" in PA. to regrind a Poly 318 Mopar cam for me and I was greatly pleased.

Looking through my past build sheets I have their phone numbers but, I don't know if they are still in business.

I'll have to remind my bbc with a ls firing order that the crank determines firing order.

crank determine the firing order?
not hardly
crankpin can be on either firing or overlap
and two crankpins are at tdc at the same time
crank allows lots of combinations

There's at least half a dozen potential F.O.s for a standard two plane crank..
