History, uses, advantages/downfalls? Love it on the cool eye popping factor
With the mfg material could it be a big heat soaker?

Chrysler made those and the 2x4 cross ram out of mag to save weight. We have the cross ram.

That's called a "Rat-Roaster", worked with them years ago on the Hemi's!
Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S. We worked with one local fire department running Mopars, used them in their tournament trucks.

Re: Tell me about this oddball intake
If it's anything like the early cross rams it's good for reducing horse power and makes a great conversation piece!

One of my friends in high-school had a Super-Bee with one of those.
It had hideous load-up problems.

Several similar SBC intakes, none for BBC except the ancient non-removable-top style cross-rams.

X2 with Gary C, great for a Coffee table item or a planter outside your garage!

Re: Tell me about this oddball intake
I can see how it would want to load up wiht that giant plenum, cant help but wonder how much heat would transfer to the carb. Sure look sweet!!
always wanted one on the car but figure it would have worse manners and is borderline as it.
Couple anodized velocity stacks though oh yeah.

Re: Tell me about this oddball intake
Make fun if you want but they put many a Hemi in the winners circle.....the factory ones worked for the intended use!
As pictured on our '70 Hemicuda back in early 70...it was teamed up with the rest of the Race Hemi goodies including the Racer Brown STX-22 flat tappet cam which some early Pro Stockers were still using. Made for one hell of a serious 1500 RPM idle! We also were running a 9 inch convertor and 4.56 gears in the Dana 60. We drove it on the streets during the night cruise scene and ran it at the local track 10.90's at 127 not bad for couple of kids learning how to tune a Hemi! Great days with Sunoco 260 just around the corner for .36 cent a gal.!!

Re: Tell me about this oddball intake
I may be misremembering, but I think the Direct Connection book had info about where to glue popsicle sticks to improve fuel distribution .
Re: Tell me about this oddball intake
That is the mandatory NASCAR intake used on every Hemi that won any races from the mid 60's to early 70's.
Based on my Chevy Cross Ram experiences, they work well in their tuned RPM zones.....not so well outside of those zones. They were called "torque box intakes" for a good reason way back when.....Edelbrock had a whole series of similar intakes for Mopars under their "Rat Roaster" series of intakes.....like a Hemi would have to worry about a BBC if it were in proper tune.....PROPER TUNE.....that's what seperated the Heros from the Zeros and still seems to today.
