Out at the strip with this last night, only got 1 pass before the track timing system died.
We ran it with the same tune as last time out for the 1st pass, only change was a forward facing hornet scoop with the carb sealed to the hood.
Tune was not right, but we knew that & just wanted a back to back with the need scoop, figured we'd get a few runs to get it dialled in so wasn't too concerned about getting it bang on 1st pass.
Went 10.18 @ 130mph, 1.46 60' - owner hit the limiter on the 1-2 change.
Got back to the pits & put the timing back to where it wanted to be on the dyno (we had it up to 31 deg when we were chasing the misfire last time out, on the dyno it made best power at 29 deg).
Before we got another pass the timing system crapped out & they had to just do flag drop racing with no timers & a guy with a green flag, owner took it out anyway coz it's a fair ol drive to the track.

Of course he nailed the pass, timing change had it real happy, launched harder, he nailed the shifts & went through the traps about 200rpm higher.
Would have been a 9.9x or a 10.0x - but no slip.

Thats very impressive. Those ports look killer.
Did you have any geometry problems at all with the Scorpion Rockers?
Are they VN Heads?
Beautiful work.

Yeah. The ports are evenly spaced, not paired.
Also, notice the cutout on each of the inlet ports that allows the injector to aim in the right spot.
Older carburettor heads had neither of these features.

What gear stack and rear gear does this car run? And what is the RPM range does this car run through?
Racing a NA NHRA stocker should be mandatory before any posting.

Trans is a trimatic - I think you guys in the US call them a T200? - gear ratios are stock.
Diff is 9" with 4.3 gears.
Converter is a 5000 stall 8".
Shifts at 7500-7700, through the traps at around 7800.

Xanadu - yep, VN iron heads, Scorpion rockers seem pretty good, they are 'precision' branded but made by scorpion, I had to relieve them a little for pushrod clearance at full lift. They're labelled as 1.65 ratio but actually check at around 1.72 ratio.

This whole car is a bit of a surprise package, aim was to get it firmly into the mid 10's - which is as fast as the local track is supposed to let you run with no cage.
Now it's knocking on the door of a 9 second pass, only changes from street trim are dropped pipes, hornet scoop (which bolts on in place of the street A9X reverse cowl) & tyres.
The difference between this one & many others is the owner - he's a perfectionist, pipes are made right, converter is good, diff gears are near ideal, car setup is bang on etc. A lot of guys after realising that the cowl scoop was not a good thing would have just pulled it off & run with the carb in the breeze, but Jason went to the trouble of tracking down an old Hornet, cutting it down 1", making it 'bolt on', painting it to match the car & fabricating a sealed plate for the carb - because that was the best solution. In most 'street' cars this motor wouldn't run this hard.

The reason I asked is.....this type of engine you build has a very neat power band (high RPM HP that carries) and I know this is a street car........but as you know if that power was utilized we wouldn't be looking at high 9s it could be considerably faster, nice job.

Well, the good news is that the owner wants that 9 second time slip - then he's gonna start on a dedicated race car to put this engine in & refresh his old 310 cube engine for this car as a pure streeter. The car is too nice to put a cage in or beat up racing on a regular basis.

Trimatics are known as TH180 in the US.

Pic from the weekend.
10.13 @ 131, 1.385 60' - looks like valve springs have had enough, we tweaked the tune all day & it got faster & faster to 1/2 track but ET'd much the same.
New springs over winter & maybe some other tweaks, SOB has a 9 in it but it's gonna fight to get it there!

Looking at the twist on the launch tells me that chassis alone would be worth ET... Good et for the limited chassis.
