Ed-vanced covered a few things that I didn't in my hasty reply. I would verify the readings with another gauge as well. It wouldn't be the first time that an inconsistent tool caused a headache.

You were giving us applesauce to kumquats for a comparsion.

FWIW, a compression test with the throttle shut tells you very little. The engine cannot ingest enough air to fill the cylinders to ambient with the throttle shut. I was taught always plugs out, throttle wide open crank each cylinder 3-4 compression strokes.
