speed pro hyper piston orientation

Post by rubberweasel »

I have some stock type 454 speed pro hyper pistons, the instruction were missing, which way does the dot on the piston face when installing them in the block. Thank you.

That's how I have them in, but the part number that is etched on the tops of the piston was upside down on one side of the engine. So I was confused. Thanks you!

I have seen the part number upside down many times but the dot, notch or arrow is always facing the front.

Unless you are "old-school" and turn the .060" pin offset backwards like I did in my old junk301.

My Machinist told me too. He said it would help the crank push, but that my pistons would rattle some until warmed up which they did. No problem.

Just make sure the valve notches/domes still fit OK is all.

I would take a wild guess that the dome on a BBC would make this idea troublesome.
