Re: qjet needles
It really depends, as there are other variables that determine the metering rod size (air bleeds, etc). My current 350 likes DR rods, 0.0570 tip, Medium power tip length, an a nice gradual taper. This is one of those things you'll just have to experiment with on your particular engine / carb.

Re: qjet needles
A "DA" rod with a dual taper and, (I think), an .044" tip is usually a good starting place.

I made my custom rods by machining flats on the rich stop tip of the needle.oldhead wrote:back in 1968 my friends and I raced a lot of Q jets...I started making coustom size rods .015 to .070,every .005 ...We go to track start changing rods and the ET would drop ALOT. Re: qjet needles
I hade an event with a mild 400 where a rod with a small tip dumped way too much fuel for the engine to handle. Went back to the ch rod and all was good.

Re: qjet needles
Same i have with those dg rods, came off a caddy 472. Very rich.rfoll wrote:I hade an event with a mild 400 where a rod with a small tip dumped way too much fuel for the engine to handle. Went back to the ch rod and all was good.
My 350 currently have cp rods runs way better than the ch before them. Just looking to get other sizes that i can use and experiment with to get a better setup on carb. Wont know if i dont try.
As for oldhead's offer, thanks but with shipping costs these days its killing us on this side, if we want to buy for $$100 from summit the shipping alone works out to about $180. So its a bit of a killer. But thanks anyway. Appreciate the offer. Maybe someone else reading this would be interested.
thanks

Re: qjet needles
CP rods are virtually identical to the DR rods I mentioned above. I've had pretty good luck with these in several mild 327/350 combos. Smaller tips have always ended up too rich in my combos.

This would be the size of a letter or 2...........Oldheadchevyfreak wrote:Same i have with those dg rods, came off a caddy 472. Re: qjet needles
pamotorman, I rarely work on Qjets and when I do I have always had to do it the hard way making my own parts or scrounging the junkyards with a caliper in hand. I had no idea such a chart even existed. Thank you for posting that, great info.
