make a stab at port flows and rough out intake and exhaust before finalizing cam
but have a rough idea of your rpm band (and cam needed for that band) before going too big on the heads
you also need to put compression in the loop
it's like being a juggler

Even kicking the port towards the cylinder wall side as far as I dare the Ford gt40 port splashes the cylinder wall side and has very low swirl.
