Tunnel rams tend to keep the incoming air cooler than most manifolds. I would be worried about icing and cylinder fuel wash.
So much to do, so little time...

Ok.

1) it's an Engine Pro labeled Rollmaster timing set with the iwis chain.

2) fuel economy has been between 10-12 mpg, with the cold weather and in-town driving I have seen as low as 9. The one big tow I did it was 14,340 lbs loaded and was returning 11mpg at 70+ mph.

2.5) I should add that is around the same mileage as it got with the 5.7 vortec......... 3/4tons don't get the mileage the 1/2 tons do. It just has an extra 200hp and 200 ft/lbs now :D

3) It does not act cold blooded at all. You can literally hit the key, pull it in gear, and drive away.

4) I haven't had any icing issues......... I've had it in damp weather 20º-40º, I've had it in weather well below zero, I've let it sit out overnight after driving it, it does daily driver duty just fine.

We have an AMP EFI clinic coming up next week and I'm thinking of driving the truck down to Des Moines for the clinic...... That's 480 miles each way. I may not drive it as my car gets better mileage and I'm not hauling anything but it may be good to have the Megasquirt MS3-pro ECU and Microsquirt TCU there on hand as we are teaching how to tune EFI using the MS3-pro

My new (to me) daily driver has a display for miles of fuel remaining and I just noticed that on a 20 degree morning it uses 25+ miles of fuel in the first 3-5 miles of driving. Once it's warm the instantaneous mileage on the highway is the same as always. I never really thought about what the warm-up corrections (or chokes n carbs) do to fuel consumption...but they do a LOT.

You've got to love EFI. No fuel vaporizing in the cold top part of the manifold means none of the problems associated with cold manifolds, no icing, no puddling bugging up startup or anything else, no peddling the throttle to keep it running when it's cold, it just works.

Just an update on the truck......

I drove it from Fargo to Des Moines Iowa this weekend for an AMP EFI seminar. I left Fargo Thursday evening and ran it to Minneapolis where I stayed at a friends house. I was in a hurry so it was 80mph or so. I did have to give my buddy a good ride in it Thursday night (wink wink nudge nudge) Friday morning I left Minneapolis and ran 75 to Des Moines. I ran around Des Moines for a while and finally ended up at Karl's Performance where we held the seminar. We had a GM crate LS3 supplied by Karl's on the engine dyno for EFI training and we strapped my truck down to their Superflow chassis dyno as well (after 4 of us took it for lunch, they wanted a ride too  ). We ran the truck on the chassis dyno Sunday afternoon and it made 362hp and 363 ft/lbs of torque. This shows a 22% drivetrain loss........ not bad for a 3/4 ton with the 4L80e and the big transfer case, driveshaft, and 10.5" 14bolt rear. Then I drove it home.

The total trip was 1056 miles and I used 89.73 gallons of fuel *including dyno time* ..... average for the trip......... 11.77mpg. I'm ok with that :D

I was actually there as a facilitator/instructor but you always learn something....... we had some NHRA pro-stock guys, we had some land speed racers, we had the guy who used to build Buddy Ingersol's engines, there were turbo guys, an offshore boat racer, an engine builder from Australia............ if you can't learn something from that group you may have a learning disability :P

Specifically as far as EFI I learned a little more about part-throttle tuning and efficiency, I learned more about knock sensor set-up and implementation, and I learned a better/easier way to develop the VE table on an MS3pro.

I may be biased but I feel AMP EFI is second to none for efi training, we were able to get all of the students dyno time at several different points. The training we do has a lot of hands-on because we feel that's the best way to learn.

Edit: Here is a quote from one of the students that attended:

"This class is awesome!!!!! If you are a newbie or a "self-proclaimed" tuner... I will guarantee you will learn something!!!! You can learn as much as you want and the people involved will take as much time as needed to cover anything and everything you want to know. A great opportunity to learn and another HUGE benefit is you never know who you will be sitting next to... a great networking opportunity!!!! I have an incredible amount of respect for everyone at DIYAutoTune.com! Great products and even greater people!"

Truck looks sharp Mark. About that torque curve, you can't call it that though, more like a torque flat. What did it look like on the DTS? What torque converter, stock?

Thanks............ the engine dyno sheet is the first photo posted on the first page :D The converter is a custom built Coan that is designed for towing heavy stuff.

I should point out that the engine had some very poorly fitting 1 5/8" dyno headers on the engine dyno and the truck has my custom 4-2-1 headers so not quite identical to how it was dyno'd engine vs. truck.

I have video of the chassis dyno pulls......... once I figure out how to get it edited and loaded up to youtube I'll post a link........... the exhaust is quieter than you would think.

Hey Mark, couple of questions for ya:

How much room do you reckon you have between the filter and your scoop?

Are those 1,000 cfm throttle bodies with tapered spacers under them?

What compression ratio do you feel is safe to run with that combo, or one similar to it? Texas heat 8)
