Available space is going to be the limiting factor. Small car- mid engine, have to use a muffler.exhausted wrote:
A 421 header. 1.5@8" step to 1.63 for another 8". Primary collectors go to 1.88 and step that one pipe size every 12-14". You will be suprised how long you can run the secondaries. Final collector choke gets larger as secondary gets longer. I am just telling you what can happen if you test secondary lengths, obviously you have to have the funds, ability and time.
A AR "can is a Anti-Reversion device. Google "Feuling AR". Works best in the tailpipe.

There are no noise restrictions, but it doesn't go down well if you make no attempt at reducing noise.
Re: First time header build
Well then make a minor attempt and call a AR bulb a supressor...brad_m wrote:There are no noise restrictions, but it doesn't go down well if you make no attempt at reducing noise.
Motorcycle sized units are available as they are common in single cylinder stuff and larger ones seem to start around 3" in-out, just google Hendren racing engines but units around 2-2.5 tube are hard to find. But the effort is worth it. I would consider using the Hendren units as a "muffler" at the end of you system, just step up tailpipe to 3" near the end? Make room...

Re: First time header build
Calvin would these work if you did like this? As in if you wanted the rest of the system larger than the collector.

Re: First time header build
Or better yet, a double step anti-reversion. Say 2.5" collectors step to 3" into a y-pipe with 3.5" out into a single 4" exhaust?

Re: First time header build
Oh, by the way..................... Look at the collectors here very carefully and then look at the collectors with mufflers on (look where the taper to the collector ends vs. the length of the collector vs. the position and size of the muffler)

Re: First time header build
I'm thinking the AR device would be about where an expansion box would be after the collector
Re: First time header build
No but the collector extends about 1/2 the way in. 3.5" core muffler with 2.75" collector77cruiser wrote:Mark do you have a pic looking into the end of the muffler?
Re: First time header build
Thanks for all input guys.
I think as far as finding a local AR can, that going to be impossible. I already have to get 1-5/8 and 1-7/8 tube custom bent as I can't find an Australian supplier that stocks preformed bends in those sizes.
And I've only managed to find some sizes with a bend radius of more than 1.5xdiameter. I can get the 1.5" tube for the pipe off the head with a 9.8" bend radius.
I'll look at making my own AR can.
