I use to use the fram hp1 oil filter on my little ford 2300 dirt car but after hearing so many bad things about them, I want a better filter. I am looking at the wix or ??? filters but just don't know for sure which.
I was reading the oil filter discussion from earlier this year and wonder if anyone/everyone reached a agreement on the best performance filter.
I never had a problem with the fram and engine looked good at teardown but too much time and money to take any chances.
Not wanting to start any big arguments, just get the latest best choice. Thanks

I think the Fram HP series is built a little better than the standard box store filter…

I have used Wix, Motorcraft, and Hastings in my FE and 351-C race engines all with good luck. Right now we are going to use a Baldwin G6 filter in our B-mod motor as this is what our engine guy uses and sells.

Wix, NAPA Gold, Baldwin 253, Motorcraft, Purolator Pure One, K&N, Mobil 1 are all very good filters. All have a internal bypass. I tend to favor the first 3.
If you want a filter with no bypass, you limited to Moroso, and Jomar, both made by Baldwin.

The Wix Racing flows by far the most oil with the least pressure drop, but the micron rating is 60+, and is a pure racing filter. I would never suggest one on a dirt car.

We use Wix on our wetsump stuff.

If you go to your local parts store, Napa, Carquest... ect and ask them when there WIX filter days are. It is in the spring of the year on WIX filters. My cost on a case of 51061R fiters this year was $75 each tax included. I usually buy 15 or so cases a yr.

Pretty sure I got the link from a post here last year. Some good info in there IMO. possibly not work safe of course being YB.

I know the guy that started that thread. In fact I cut up the Moroso and Jomar for that thread. He put of a lot of time and effort in that.
Bottom line, neither of us saw anything we didn't fully expect. There is some JUNK out there with big names. Like Delco/K&N Black/and the latest from Bosch. Pure garbage.

I stopped using Fram after I had goofy oil gauge results, and loosing prime as far back as 2005.. Great name, crappy product. I run Wix on everything, if not I grab a purulator from wal-mart if I need one at 2 am.. if I am not mistaken Napa Gold is a wix product?.. Maybe someone will fill in.
As far as Baldwins go, I have run them on big diesels, both in my uncles construction buisiness, and on farm equipment for a tomato farm I worked. Never had an issue, I assumed they were sub par, but they proved otherwise.

Fram, IMHO is a TURD in beautiful orange paint ( that doesn't match chevy orange anyway), in a beautiful orange box with a neon glow, boasting 7-50x more flow restricting, bearing drying filtering than "leading" brand . It is often accompanied by a beautiful suggestive poster that can be found in Autozone end caps (or whomever sells this TURD). It may say tough gard with a shot of bed liner paint on the end for weak hands to grip, but you are still gripping a turd. Jmho

Yes, NAPA GOLD are Wix. For a NAPA Gold, you just drop the front 5 from the Wix number.

Take a look at the Canton filters. Not cheap, but I believe, are among the very best. IMO

Interesting.. Change your oil and leave the filter alone for 10,000 miles or 2 oil changes...
