Any good info on the new RY45 block and heads?

Post by Hardcharger55 »

I've been trying to find some more info on the new engine from Roush Yates. Looks like an awesome platform and it will be available to anyone who wants to purchase the parts. What's everybody think about them only selling the parts but not doing the assembly or tuning? I heard from a friend, who is a past customer of RY, that the parts to assemble the engine complete are north of $40,000!

Well, it's aluminum for one thing, the balancer fits behind the timing belt and it has a chevy bell housing pattern and a 4.500" bore space. Those are just a few of the things I know about it. Mostly wondering if anyone has ordered this stuff, how the heads shape up.

I imagine you could easily get a 4.200 bore.

I talked to Yates about the engines. Heads are ford castings but have modified valve angles. Little pricey, but worth the added performance and reliability.

RY45 appears to have a huge cam bore. Speaks volumes.

I believe the largest bore the RY45 will take is a 4.150.
Not sure what they were thinking! LOL

Hopefully it goes more than 4.150 bore. Valves almost hit the bore walls at 4.150

Yep, and aimed at the dirt late model market!?! LOL
If I remember right, they are still a non siamesed bore, so with the aluminum structure, even with a 4.5 spacing, 4.150 is about it.

Aren't the cam base circle and maximum lobe lift restricted in the spec? (Along with max rocker ratio, max cam to crank center distance, max this, min that, etc...)

Cam to crank distance, cam core size, lifter diameter and crank journal size is mandated in cup.
Not so much in most dirt late model deals.

Block seems identical to the fr9 nascar block but has has 2.75 mains and a wider pan rail.
