Roller Cam Bearings/50mm cores

Post by Speedy Goomba »

How significant is the power gain switching to Roller Cam bearings, and in testing were any significant power gains made by switching from the typical SBC core to a 50mm or 55mm core?

Thanks.

Hey Speedy,

If you don't take advantage of the changes it's probably worth zero. Reduced oil pump and different cam lobes will make it worth it though. I think it's a great mod and would do it on every block that would accept it.

Don,

If you don't mind, I'd like to get a little more into this?

With a wetsump engine that may never see more than 7,000rpm on the street, how much would you reduce the oil pressure? Utilizing the roller cam bearing of course.

And this may sound crazy but what exactly do you mean by "different cam lobes"?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn.

Thanks,
Chuck

I was really speaking pump capacity - thinner/shorter pump gears. Check out this http://www.popularhotrodding.com/engine ... c_28_z.jpg

The cam lobes? Lobes designed with a larger basecircle.
